This is the follow-up to my song parody about online learning, “Message Sent on Moodle,” although I actually had the idea for doing a parody of “From a Distance” on this topic first. Hope you enjoy it. Here are the lyrics:
From A Distance
From a distance
An online course can seem
Like something that can be done with ease
From a distance
The flexibility
Can mislead you to think online means a breeze
But from a distance
There is loneliness
And responsibility
With the campus gone
And a TV on
Learning may not come so naturally
From a distance
Books sit on a shelf
When there’s no one there to nag me but myself
And from a distance
I feel on my own
So far from anyone who can help
But from a distance
All these challenges
Are an opportunity
To arrange my day
Balance work and play
Learn that no one else can learn for me
The prof is watching us
Prof is watching us
Prof is watching us from a distance
From a distance
I find I belong
Online learners are a community
From a distance
I can take control
If I learn or not depends on me
And from a distance I could recognize
That deep down learning’s the same
Whether far or near
Whether there or here
What I make of class is what it will be
The prof is watching us
Prof is watching us
Prof is watching us from a distance
The prof is watching us
Prof is watching
Prof is watching us from a distance
