Scottie Scheffler–the #1 pro golfer in the world the past two years and winner of last week’s Masters Tournament–continued his hot streak today by shooting a blazing 8-under par 63 at the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to take a one stroke lead into tomorrow’s last round with a logjam of players behind him within striking distance.
If Scheffler wins tomorrow, he will be only the third player to ever win the Masters and the next PGA Tour event. Actually, I was surprised he played this week after winning the year’s first major, which can be emotionally draining. But Scottie appears so cool, calm, and collected on the golf course, no matter whether he’s winning or not, that he gives the impression the game is not emotionally draining on him, treating it as “just a game.” He often explains, “golf does not define me,” adding that his Christian faith does.
Scottie is a prominent member of the long flourishing PGA Tour Bible Study. It meets weekly on Tour for the players and their families. Yours Truly cofounded, and then co-led, this group so many years ago that I hesitate to say when it started since it makes me feel really old, like a dinosaur–1965!
