Last Minute Lent

Holy Week is almost here, marking the final stretch of the 40-day Lenten season.  But it’s not too late to begin a Lenten discipline.  Give away 40 items today, one for every day of Lent. Give up some stuff you don’t need, and take on the practice of charitable giving.

Get rid of those books you’ll never read again, or will never read for the first time.  Give away those clothes that you haven’t worn in more than a year, or those CDs you don’t listen to anymore.  Clear out the food in your pantry that you will never cook.  Transport these 40 items to a thrift store before Easter Sunday.

May you find that the practice of letting go of unnecessary stuff has cleared space, not only in your home, but also in your soul.
