The Oscar-nominated star of The Help and Doubt told the New York Post, “I was the loneliest woman in the world, and someone said, ‘You should just pray for a husband.’ I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had children, who maybe had been married before . . . 3 1/2 weeks later I met my husband.”

Viola’s heaven-sent husband is Julius Tennon is a former football player turned actor. He has two kids from previous relationships and had been raising them as a single dad when he and Viola first met. They have since adopted a son named Genesis.
