A few brief words on horror and scary movies for Halloween October 31, 2015

Today is Halloween, so the good folks at Context with Lorna Dueck in Toronto asked me if I could talk to them for a few minutes about scary movies and why a Christian would watch them (or, in some cases, why a Christian would make them!).

The five-minute video below is edited down from a slightly longer conversation, but it covers such films as The Exorcism of Emily Rose (which marks its tenth anniversary this year!), The Passion of the Christ, The Exorcist and The Sixth Sense (we see a few clips from this last film, though my comments on it apparently got snipped).

For further reading, I recommend you check out my interview with Scott Derrickson from ten years ago, when he was putting the finishing touches on The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Since then he has also directed Sinister and Deliver Us from Evil, and he is currently in pre-production on the Marvel Comics movie Doctor Strange.
