translation ? I enjoy the sounds , talent and effort ,but since I do not know what the words mean, I can’t fully appreciate the performance . You were very fortunate and blessed to have had the family God gave you . Would your aesthetic taste buds be so keen if it had not been for them? I only met your mom once , about 32 years ago , but I consider even those brief moments to be life enhancing and for which I have never forgotten. I would prefer even a casual conversation with Elizabeth Elliot , Joni Tada and your mom , all in the same room , than hearing the greatest performance by the greatest vocalist and orchestra .

    But yes, Amen .

From the program for (probably) this performance:

Fierce Furies of the dread abyss,
    spew black venom over me.
May the earth crumble and the sun grow dark
with this wrath my breast exhales.

Yes, parental support means a great deal. And sometimes even without it people develop keen aesthetic taste buds… I had a friend (now departed) who never saw a magazine in his house growing up, and very few books, and who became a medical doctor, a philosopher with a special love for Heidegger, and a novelist (sadly unpublished).

Oh my , I have experienced those first two lines when The LORD “allowed” me, in The Spirit I suppose , to taste a little glimpse of what it may be like for those who enter where they shall never escape . It helped change me and made me more conscience of the need to share The Gospel. Thanks for the interpretation .

A very religious friend was recently telling me he didn’t understand why the Europeans, and to a lesser extent, Americans, built such large and fancy churches. I was a bit surprised. What, he asked, does that have to do with God or worship?

My comment was that I know that God is everywhere, but that we are imperfect and not always able to perceive God’s presence. Personally, a fairly formal liturgy in a place of beauty helps me disassociate with the rush and bother of daily life, slow down, and open my heart and it helps me move to a place where I can begin to experience God.

Which is to say, while God is everywhere, we experience God in different ways and places. And, sadly, while I appreciate the skill and beauty of the performance, it isn’t, to me, proof of God’s existence.

Hi the title of my post was a bit tongue-in-cheek, of course there is no proof of God or anything else … that said… art is what separates human primates from everything else, and this clip shows the best of the best, F

It’s supposed to be a video of Mahler’s “Ich bin der Welt Abhanden Gekommen”, and not a photo with text…
