Once in a while I see the work of a young artist and a bomb goes off in my head— I mean that in a good way. Heather Murphy is one such artist. Her work reminds me of O’Keefe, with shades of Warhol. She can paint! But her painting has a freedom to it that’s stunning. I mean— what to make of an artist that paints rock star icons AND flowers, pop posters that could have been Pink Floyd album covers AND lyrical almost transparent studies of nature? Then there’s her humor. Look I’ll bet in a little while Murphy will be discovered by the art establishment (I’ll be so fucking jealous!) and none of us working stiffs will ever get another chance at owning her work. Now we can. It is sinfully underpriced. Don’t just buy it as an investment. Buy a Heather Murphy or two or three, for love.
