Second Set of Problems in Contemporary Christian Discipleship
These are problems that I myself faced as a young believer. Because I see these issues as rampant today in the Christian world, I want to highlight and address them head-on.
Problem 1. Christians easily burn out when undergoing discipleship trainings and programs. This is because these training and programs are strong on knowledge and will, rather than on how to lay hold of the source of all spiritual power and vitality.
Problem 2. Christians are rarely if ever taught how to live by the life of Christ who indwells them. So they rely on their own will to be a “good Christian.” In other words, they live by the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil rather than by the Tree of Life.
Problem 3. Christians are taught to be like Jesus by reading the Gospels and doing their best to apply what they read. When Jesus said “follow me,” He wasn’t just talking about imitating what He did. He was talking about the engine that drove His own life and ministry. “Follow me,” not only means, obey my teachings, but it also means “get a hold of the same source that I relied upon to live my life.”
I’ve offered solutions to these problems in the following FREE resource:
1. Living by the Indwelling Life of Christ – Part 1 (this is the Session I of my new online discipleship course.)
This message does the following:
a. it talks about the three different life forms presented in the Bible and how they are different.
b. it explains how the main subject of the Gospels is Life, especially in the book of John.
c. it identifies how to lay hold of God’s Life which indwells every true believer.
d. it reveals the difference between living by God’s Life vs. living by our knowledge of good vs. evil.
