God’s Magnificent Obsession

God’s Magnificent Obsession June 22, 2016

The Bible transcends time. Its message lives and breathes for people in every age—be it premodern, modern, or postmodern. The latter is the world in which we find ourselves.

In my 2009 book, From Eternity to Here, I presented three tales that sought to narrate God’s ultimate passion. Those tales are solidly grounded in Scripture. In fact, they embody the whole story of Scripture, streaming through it like a constant current. (Of course, they are my interpretation of that story.)

Each tale provided a precious glimpse into how infinitely rich and glorious is God’s highest passion. All three tales telescope into one another. They are but three scenes of one grand drama. And each of them is shrouded in a sacred mystery. A mystery that has been “hid in God for ages.”

The New Testament authors, especially Paul of Tarsus, unveiled those three tales with maddening passion. Each tale flows out of the ultimate passion that lies resident within the throbbing heart of God. Together they comprise His central intention behind creating the universe.

Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people disintegrate.” Without a vision—or a purpose—we humans cast off restraint. We go to pieces. We run amuck. We fall apart.

My new book – MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION – goes into further depth on the subject of God’s Eternal Purpose.
