Free sex change operations for 15-year-olds without parental consent

Free sex change operations for 15-year-olds without parental consent July 17, 2015

The state of Oregon will now allow adolescents as young as 15 to get a sex change operation without parental consent or notification.  The surgery will also be provided free of charge, funded by taxpayers via the state Medicaid program.

From Michael Avramovich,  Oregon Teens Can Now Undergo Sex Change Without Parental Consent – Mere Comments:

Now, in its march towards utopia, the People’s Republic of Oregon has quietly implemented a new rule for its children. Without parental approval or notification, 15-year-olds will be allowed to get a sex change operation. Moreover, Oregon taxpayers will be picking up the expensive tab for each sex change through its Medicaid program, the Oregon Health Plan (“OHP”). And why 15-year-olds? OHP spokesmouth Susan Wickstrom explained that this is because the age of medical consent that “applies to both Medicaid and non-Medicaid Oregonians . . . is 15.” So now, without any public debate (yes, really!), an Oregon government-appointed medical commission has changed its policy to include “cross-sex hormone therapy, puberty-suppressing drugs and gender-reassignment surgery as covered treatments for people with gender dysphoria, formally known as gender identify disorder” for those over the age of medical consent. Gender dysphoria is classified by the American Psychiatric Association (“APA”) as a mental disorder in which a person identifies as the sex opposite of his or her birth. It is a relatively rare condition, and according to medical studies, most children with gender dysphoria will not remain gender dysphoric after puberty. The long-time director of the Johns Hopkins Psychiatry Department, Dr. Paul McHugh, condemned Oregon’s new policy, stating, “We have a very radical and even mutilating treatment being offered to children without any evidence that the long-term outcome of this would be good.” Emphasis added. Sounds like child abuse to me as it is clear that children who are 15 years of age may not comprehend fully the gravity of the consequences of their decision.
