John 10: Life to the Fullest

John 10: Life to the Fullest April 20, 2011

John 10 is packed with great quotes from the teachings of Jesus. Verse 10 includes one of my favorites: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

In contrast with the “thief,” a reference to Satan who steals life, Jesus Christ came to offer life. To highlight this contrast, Jesus stated those who follow him will have life “to the full.” Other translations use “abundant life,” but idea is that Jesus offers the best possible life a person could ever have.

This is partly why when I communicate with people who are skeptics or adherents of other religions that I usually don’t focus on dismantling their beliefs. Instead, I begin by contrasting “life as they know it” with the life Jesus offers. Other ways may satisfy for a time, but no one fills the spiritual void within the human soul completely except for Jesus.

As others have noted throughout history, eternal life for the Christian does not begin in heaven; it has already begun. Let us live life to its fullest today, knowing Jesus himself has redeemed us and designed us to live out his purposes each step of the journey.
