Genesis 26: When God Speaks

Genesis 26: When God Speaks February 6, 2012

23 From there he went up to Beersheba. 24 That night the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.” -Genesis 26:23-24

When the Lord speaks, things happen. Isaac had dealt with a wide range of problems–issues with his wife, controversies with his neighbors over wells  and water supply, and more–and was certainly upset that night. But God was faithful to his promise.

In a vision, God reminds Isaac of his promise, his presence, and his plans for Isaac. The Lord was Abraham’s God and would be Isaac’s as well. The Lord would be with him, meaning Isaac had no reason to fear. Plus, God had some great plans for Isaac–to bless him with family and a legacy of descendants that could not be counted.

While God has different plans for each of our lives, he is there and does have a special purpose for each of us. He may not show up in a vision to tell us, but the Bible makes clear that our God is there and is ready to work in our lives today.
