This is a serious cop-out here, but I see in my twitter feed that the White Supremacist rally in Charlottesville has declared an “unlawful assembly.”  CNN reports that

The city of Charlottesville has declared Saturday’s gathering at Emancipation Park — site of the scheduled “Unite the Right” rally” of white nationalists and right-wing protesters — an unlawful assembly. Police officers are speaking on bullhorns, directing people to leave the park.

So from all reports these are terrible people.  And I’d assumed they were planning on following the usual template of trying to rile people up while claiming nonviolent intentions (or perhaps self-defense) on their part.  But I’ve never seen a city respond by declaring the rally to be illegal.  As reprehensible as these people are, well, can they do that (the city, that is)?

And this is where I leave it.  I’m heading out for the day.  I’d love to check back later and have you, my readers, fill me in on what’s going on and what I’d be missing by just checking the usual news sources.
