This Day in Rio: The Love that Transforms Us

This Day in Rio: The Love that Transforms Us July 24, 2013

There is so much to say, with an eye on Pope Francis and all the young people in love with our Lord in Rio. My favorite line of the day may be from Pope Francis during his homily at the shrine at Aparecida when he said: “If we are truly in love with Christ and if we sense how much he loves us, our heart will ‘light up’ with a joy that spreads to everyone around us.”

That’s it, isn’t it? Do we believe that Christ died for us? That the source of our life and our strength is Jesus Christ, who gives us the bread we need in the Eucharist? And if we want to believe, and can’t quite see the way, pray for the light of faith. Just ask. That is hope right there, Cardinal Dolan explained to American pilgrims around the same time in another part of the region.

Sometimes I fail to do things … or I do things I ought not. These are good questions to ask ourselves, good points for our nightly examen, isn’t it? Am I truly in love with Christ? Do I know how much he loves me? Did I spread His joy to everyone around me today? Lord, help me.
