Humility Exemplified: What If God Was One of Us?

You remember the song “What If God Was One of Us?”  It was released by Joan Osborne, and it became the theme song for television series “Joan of Arcadia.”  I couldn’t help but think of it when I saw this.

Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home
He’s trying to make his way home
Back up to heaven all alone
Nobody calling on the phone
Except for the Pope maybe in Rome

Speaking as a former (small) part of the very wonderful “Joan of Arcadia” [I was the religion consultant], I’m happy to see that you noticed the amazing connection. Further proof, too, that my Catholic friend Barbara Hall—the creator/executive producer of “JofA”—is not only a genius, but has more charisms than only those of the spirits of discernment and spiritual warrior. And, major kudos to the songwriter of “One of Us” as well as Joan Osborne for making it a hit song.

May “One of Us” and “Joan of Arcadia” get a new listen and look, and may our new Holy Father be a blessing for all of us!

Wow–the “religion consultant” for Joan of Arcadia is no small job! It’s a critically important role. Thank you for your work.

That was one of my favorite shows. Too bad it got canceled. Was it ever released in DVD?

Nevermind- it was- back in 2005! I really should get it, it would help with my son’s catechisis.
