In Song Inspired by His Own Daughter’s Adoption, Singer-Songwriter John Elefante Defends Life

Have you heard “This Time”, the newest single release from John Elefante, former frontman of the rock band Kansas?

The song and its accompanying video tell the story of a young high school girl who discovers she’s pregnant.

The theme is a familiar one:  The boyfriend turns away.  The girl is afraid to tell her parents, and schedules an abortion.  In the video, the young woman imagines her sweet daughter as a preschool beauty, then watches her grow up.  Horrified by the choice she had made to kill and “solve the problem”, she flees the abortion clinic, finds love and support in her own mother’s arms, and gives birth to the unborn life within her—placing the child up for adoption.

It could have gone differently, though.  Too often, young women who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy are afraid to choose life, instead thinking that having an abortion will put an end to the problem.  What follows is a painful death for the innocent unborn, and guilt and regret for the young woman.

Former “Kansas” lead singer and producer John Elefante, in this song, shares the story of his adopted daughter’s birth.  At the same time he brings attention to Online for Life (OFL), an educational non-profit working to rescue babies from abortion so they can live to make their mark on the world.

On his website, Elefante explains:

“I can’t imagine life without my daughter, Sami, and it just breaks my heart that pregnant young women much like her birth mother, instead of choosing life for their babies, are denying them the chance to be born. 

If our song can in any way bring attention to this issue and encourage those who are considering abortion to choose life through options such as adoption, then we couldn’t be happier.”
