Donald Trump’s presidency is imploding. His response to the violent demonstrations by Neo-Nazis and White Nationalists, with a counter-protest against them, last week in Charlottsville, Virginia, is another disaster. His three speeches about it so far are being rendered inadequate by a large majority of U.S. citizens. Many are concluding the president revealed that he is somewhat of a racist. For the self-proclaimed master of deal-making in his book, The Art of the Deal, that is a real deal-breaker in the USA.
Adolf Hitler and his Nazis Party were the worst thing that has happened to humanity. Sixty million Europeans lost their lives in WWII due to Nazism. Add to that 400,000 U.S. soldiers. And then there was the six million Jews in the Holocaust. It is such a pitiful mark on present humanity that there is a growing Neo-Nazi movement of young people that is rearing its head in Europe and now in the U.S.
President Trump has principles by which he does business. One is having “No Regrets.” He doesn’t believe in admitting he was wrong. The very first principle of Christianity is repentance. A person cannot truly believe in God and serve him without first repenting of his sins. God said through Isaiah the Prophet, “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit” (Isaiah 57.15).
Another principle Donald Trump has is that when someone hits him, metaphorically speaking, he hits back ten times harder. His wife Melania said that of him, glowingly, in a speech. Everyone knows that Jesus said, “But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone want to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well” (Matt. 5.39-40). In contrast, The Donald is the king of lawsuits–about 4,000.
Donald Trump is also the master of diversion when criticized. That is, if he gets criticized, he diverts the subject of the conversation to another and then attacks. That is an effort to control the conversation. Mr. Trump has OCPD–Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. Many men who are leaders have it.
Furthermore, Donald Trump is very narcissistic and thus a psychologically sick man. The Mayo Clinic defines narcissism as follows: “Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of ultraconfidence lies a fragile self-esteem that’s vulnerable to the slightest criticism.”
It is Trump’s penchant for diverting criticism of himself to attention on something else that bothers me. If his presidency continues to implode, as it has been these past few days since the Charlottesville incident, and the confrontation raises its head again between North Korea and the U.S., and worse, I wonder if President Trump could divert criticism of himself by making a narcissistic decision to go to war against North Korea when cooler heads, especially his military generals, might be dead set against it.
