Our own Melissa is on Jezebel!

Jezebel just put up an article called “What Happens When a Quiverfull Dad Becomes a Woman?” And what do you know? It’s about our own dear Melissa! Someone was reading her series, Unwrapping the Onion, it seems. Here’s the best quote:

Melissa was over dudes, Melissa’s husband was over being a dude, the church was over both of them, and they were over the church.

And while we’re at it, both Joe and Lisa have also blogged about Melissa’s series.

About Libby Anne

Libby Anne grew up in a large evangelical homeschool family highly involved in the Christian Right. College turned her world upside down, and she is today an atheist, a feminist, and a progressive. She blogs about leaving religion, her experience with the Christian Patriarchy and Quiverfull movements, the detrimental effects of the "purity culture," the contradictions of conservative politics, and the importance of feminism.

That might actually not be so good. I hope it is, but Jezebel’s readers have displayed a lot of transphobia in the past, and I’d hate to see that sort invade her comments any more.

All 70 comments on the Jezebel article are 100% positive. I checked.

Most of the comments in Jezebel seemed supportive for now. If not we’ll be there to keep them in check if they decide to try to troll Melissa’s blog (not that she can’t handle it herself).

Yeah, the commenting base has changed recently — a lot of the more feminist readers don’t comment much anymore, and there were recent commenting issues with Gawker and a lot of their commenters (who have commenting privileges across the board) have been trolling on Jez. Last week was exceptionally obnoxious.

This is AWESOME! I’ve been trying to get all of my friends to read her series, and now they probably will. :)

I was pretty happy about seeing that on my jez rss feed. Go Melissa!

A few minutes ago I was crying at the conclusion of Melissa’s story. Now I’m rolling on the floor laughing at this characterization! Oh, my, what a day!

“It that’s not a heartwarming Rom Com, I don’t know what is”….so true! I’ve thought that many times while reading Melissa’s story–somebody needs to make the movie!

I KNOW. I was seriously grinning when I saw that they posted about the story (I hadn’t read the final segment yet, but did before reading MoGlo’s summary).
I mentioned you when I commented, Libby (I’m agsine there). And most of the published commentary is positive; even the unpublished comments (commenters have to be approved, to weed out spam and trolls) are predominantly positive.
