Jeh Johnson is President Barack Obama’s former Secretary of Homeland Security, and it must be tough to see another administration take over the federal government.  When he recently appeared on MSNBC, he couldn’t thrown down the gauntlet against President Trump.  In fact, it seemed like the host was asking him to do so.

“What do you make of this administration, watching it from the outside… speaking candidly as someone who is no longer in government?”  You can almost hear her thoughts.  Come on, tell us how upset you really are about this guy.

That’s why they were shocked when he responded like this:

“I actually believe Donald Trump has the potential to be a great president, in sort of the Nixon-goes-to-China way, or Reagan-goes-to-the-Soviet-Union way.”

The interview continued, in which the former Secretary continued to talk about his views on homeland security.  Then, before they cut to commercial, another host asked the exact same question.  MJ Randolph observed, “It was almost as if they thought they may have misheard him, or perhaps he’d changed his own mind from his statement issued a mere 120 seconds ago.”

“Quickly, before I let you go, Mr. Secretary, are you still hopeful that Donald Trump can be a great President, two months in?”

Once again, he responded with restraint and class:

“Two months is not a very long time,” he responded, refusing once again to take the bait. “I hope there is considerable, on-the-job learning. Every President grows in office, every President makes mistakes, every President learns lessons in office. For the success and sake of the country, I think we have to hope this President can do the thing necessary to fix a lot of problems.”

More of this, please!
