Guess what? Years of leftists being in control of the American education system has wreaked havoc. CNN’s Chris Cillizza reports, “A new poll from the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center reveals how shockingly little people know about even the most basic elements of our government and the Constitution that formed it.” Here are some of the findings.
(Be warned. You might want to sit down for this.)
* More than one in three people (37%) could not name a single right protected by the First Amendment. THE FIRST AMENDMENT.* Only one in four (26%) can name all three branches of the government. (In 2011, 38% could name all three branches.)
* One in three (33%) can’t name any branch of government. None. Not even one.* A majority (53%) believe the Constitution affords undocumented immigrants no rights. However, everyone in the US is entitled to due process of law and the right to make their case before the courts, at the least.
Some of you — especially those of you who regularly read this blog and are interested in politics — will find this rather shocking. But this is exactly how the leftists running our educational system intend it: they have stripped civics education from our system. And they’re doing it because an ignorant citizenry is easier to control, easier to lead. The Bible puts it this way: “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” (Which brings up an interesting point: What if they polled people who were educated in Christian schools or those who were homeschooled? I suspect the results would be very different.) Though these polls are tough to hear, we should consider this a wake up call. We, as self-governing citizens, must raise our children to know their rights and to appreciate their Constitutional heritage. After all, no one else is going to teach them. If people don’t know their rights… tyranny can prevail.
