is how quickly they turn from speaking of “HOPE” to speaking of the death of the United States as a fait accompli.

Even more extraordinary is that, when they cast around for a way to save the US from its certain doom, they glance at and overlook the Catholic Church (“Hmmmm… only a billion members and still growing”) and fix instead on a religious tradition whose greatest cultural achievements are Battlestar Galactica and Napoleon Dynamite.

To be sure, the “family values” thing in Mormonism is a healthy sign, especially when compared with a child-hating culture as sick as ours. But the US needs more than Donny and Marie to save it. In the end, it needs the actual gospel of Jesus Christ.
