Norman Borlaug

Norman Borlaug September 14, 2009

“Come into the kingdom which my Father has prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…”

Another quiet hero passes, one of an entire generation of giants who accomplished prodigies with none of the narcissistic fuss that so characterizes my own generation. The great tragedy of that generation is that, in their selfless generosity, they raised a generation of selfish brats who took and took and took of their endless giving, but did not learn to give. They gave the Baby Boom. We are the Abortion, Divorce, Hedonism and Euthanasia Generation. Our children are pathetically trying to piece things together, God help them.

And, Father, of your mercy, send us more Norman Borlaugs, not because we deserve them, but for the glory of your name and for the sake of your poor. Help us to emulate his quiet generosity.
