WOW… the worst part is the cover-up.
As long as she just read the children’s book and didn’t teach them anything immoral, what’s the harm? Heaven forbid that a sinner read books to children!!
I’ve noticed similar comments under the article itself, and I can guarantee you that not a single one of them came from an individual that has children.
I have children and I would have no problem with her reading a book to my kids in school. Why would you object?
Dude, she just won an AVN (Porn awards ceremony) award in 2010 for “Best Anal Sex Scene” Doesn’t that say enough?
And as for leaving the Porn industry, she has not. While she has not done a movie recently, she’s no penitant. She goes around actively championing the Porn industry still to this day. That is reason enough in my book to keep her out.
I still dont see how any of that is relevant. Shes doing a good thing, and not trying to bring her “career” into it. Shouldnt that be encouraged?
“We know you do some bad things, therefor we will prevent you from doing good things.”
What sense does that make?
ds, are you really that mystified by the reaction, or are you just trolling?
The value of this act is completely dependent upon the identity and ethos of the person in question; reading a story to children is not in and of itself a ‘good’ thing. Hence the completely understandable reaction from the concerned parents and community that a porn actress is using children as a springboard by which to normalize her public image.
Excellent point bones! Thanks for pointing out something that I should have implied in my post!
I gotta admit, I’m torn on this one. I wouldn’t be crazy about it, but since the kids had no idea what she used to do (the article says she’s been out of porn for 2 years), I wouldn’t make a fuss about it.
I agree that the worst part about the whole story was the lying and the covering up.
Don’t be torn, see my above comment. It was simply dumb of the school to invite her, if they had a brain they would have known it would invite controversy. And the cover up just made it worse.
What if you’re Hosea and Gomer is homeschooling the kids?
If OWS gets it’s way, we won’t be allowed to homeschool. Here’s a proposed List of Demands posted on their own website:
Note the one that says, “Make homeschooling illegal. Religious fanatics use it to feed their children propaganda.”
Lovely, isn’t it?
It’s too bad that the Westboro fundie kook type that likes to homeschool as well is the “face” of the movement. And thank God I live in a conservative area with public schools that actually do what they’re supposed to do. You bet I’d be homeschooling if I lived in MA or CA.
There are actually a lot of secular and/or liberal homeschoolers out there who would probably have a thing or two to say about this proposal. They’ve been part of the modern homeschooling movement from the beginning, yet homeschooling has somehow become stereotyped as a fundy thing.
Rosemarie, at the top of that page is this disclaimer: “This content is user submitted and not an official statement.”
A lot of those “demands” sounded so ridiculous and shrill, I can’t help but wonder if they were put there by right-wingers posing as OWS folks.
I don’t know, some liberals can be very ridiculous and shrill. Would a right-winger really be able to post something directly on the official OWS site like that? Wouldn’t a “proposed” list have to come from someone within the OWS?
If they didn’t agree with its contents, wouldn’t they have taken the list down by now? It was posted more than three weeks ago.
If she were a mother to one of the kids, I don’t know that I could reasonably object as I’d expect the same access to my kid. They might not permit actual parents in the classroom, though. As she got the invite as a celebrity, I’d be one of the complaining parents. What’s she famous for after all, Entourage or the porn? And what is “Entourage” anyway? Seriously. I’ve never watched it.
“Entourage” is soft-core porn. Degenerate Hollywood types.
She was invited as a celebrity, which means she’s meant to be a role model. And all it takes is one kid to figure out who she is and tell the other kids, and you have a major distraction to learning and the wrong message being sent to kids. The kids in Compton are generally not wealthy, and they need really strong role models to inspire them to success in school, etc.
I have a few thoughts on this. The first is that if any school is presenting any celebrity as a role model, well, that is a problem. While there are many good and honest people who because of their success in the arts or sports are considered celebrities, the simple act of being a celebrity never should be presented as being worthy of emulation.
I also fully understand the reluctance of parents to allow a former porn star into their children’s classroom. That being said, I think my actual decision for my own kids would have to be based on what her current feelings are regarding her former career are. If she had regretted that career, then I could certainly see moving beyond it and treating her like any other volunteer. On the other hand, if she defended that career as a viable option as good as any other, then I would have serious problems with her being in the same classroom as my child.
“If she had regretted that career, then I could certainly see moving beyond it and treating her like any other volunteer”
Sure, if we’re talking about children who are sufficiently mature to handle the exposure to this woman’s life choices. But we’re talking about 1st Graders, not high school seniors. Start to finish, the school’s series of decisions remained atop the peak of stupidity.
“On the other hand, if she defended that career as a viable option as good as any other”
Thats is what she has done. She has said she has no regrets, enjoyed doing it, and still to this day promotes the porn industry (like in documentaires for example)
Sasha Grey has explicitly stated that she has no regrets about her former career. She’s just moving on to what she hopes will be a better gig in the mainstream.
I’d have much less problem with Sasha Gray reading to my kids than some current Bishops and Cardinals. At least everything she was involved with was consensual and among adults rather than involving the raping of children.
lol what a joke! Seriously? Are you a troll?
And BTW, don’t you mean priests, rather than Bishops and Cardinals, I don’t remember them being accused of rape.
