Bulletins from the Empire of Fear

1. God King who just stripped us all of habeas corpus and arrogates to himself the right to jail forever and/or murder American citizens sez Republicans threaten the “very core of what this country stands for”. He even does the Goering trick of gesticulating and pointing to Osama bin Laden and saying “Be afraid! Be very afraid!” He’s learned the “Either you are with me or with the terrorists” rhetoric of the GOP very well.

Meanwhile, of course, the reality is that none of this pack is to be trusted.

2. Homeland Security: Keeping you safe from the real enemy: a free press. And you can see why.

3. God Queen shall have no other Gods before her.

4. Memo to Other Nations: Hillary Clinton sez: Tolerance is not Enough. You. MUST. Approve of gay sex. Or we just might bring democracy to your country.

A police state at home to achieve liberation abroad. It’s for our own good. Our Ruling Class knows best.

In my bones I believe that BHO would gladly run this country as a full military dictatorship if he could get away with it. You see, when your intentions are good the means are secondary …

“Laws have a teaching effect….It is often the case that laws must change before fears about change dissipate.” -Hilarity Rodman C.

Well this is very good news for the Mohammedan Heretics. Sharia law will serve to change hearts about subjugating women just as abortion rights laws have changed hearts about the worthlessness of fetal tissue.

I suppose our old sodomy laws had a “teaching effect” as well: You dasn’t put things in your GI tract. For centuries that seemd like good advice. Maybe HRC is right. Maybe she’s on to something. It used to be illegal to work on Sunday; that had a teaching effect too. Pornography was once illegal- more teaching yet. In English law, it was illegal to beat your wife with a stick whose diameter is larger than that of your thumb (hence the rule of thumb)- more good advice. Are you reading this, Bill?

Surely you mean Goebbels, not Goering.

I’m searching for a real analogy to the corporate authoritarianism we’re living under. As some one who’s thought of himself as a conservative for most of his life, I’m chary of throwing around the F-word, but it’s getting eerily close. Perhaps “welfare oligarchy” or “mediacracy” (I almost typed “mediocracy”) would do.

Nope. Goering: “The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

Thanks for the quote. What do you think Our Betters’ version of _The Triumph of the Will_ will look like?

    Andrew,
    It’ll be slick!

Frankly, I haven’t been surprised by any of our President’s assaults on our legal or political systems since he promised that even if the terrorists were acquited in civilian courts, he would make sure they stayed in prison anyways. Someone who would so blatantly ignore the law (and say it out loud in clear English to boot) will never be hesitant to hurt us…for our own good. We didn’t call him on it then and should not be surprised at his continual escalation since. Reelection will only confirm him in his own rightness and although I can’t imagine what’s next, I am sure I won’t like it.

“Reelection will only confirm him in his own rightness”

      Exactly right, Jessie.

Actually, the last time I checked, Hilary Clinton was just calling on other nations to stop eliminating certain people.
