In the interest of ecumenism…

I give you the Martin Luther Insult Generator. Marty knew how to let fly, as did any 16th Century polemicist worth his salt, Protestant or Catholic. Now that the personality and issues have cooled into indifference (“Who’s Latomus?” “What are the 95 theses?”) we can sit back an enjoy the sheer artistry of Luther’s invective. It’s easy when you don’t care anything about what the invective is over. Not so easy when the issues are personal to you. When that’s the case, people have shot each other over the question of whether a postage stamp was minted in 1942 or 1943.

Wow, Luther is still relevant! “We leave you to your own devices, for nothing properly suits you except hypocrisy, flattery, and lies.”

  • Telemachus

“You seem to be wrangling about goat’s wool, like the man who watched the play in an empty theater.”

Didn’t someone use this one in the GOP debates?

    God bless,

His exchanges with Saint Thomas More could strip wallpaper. I wish I was at home so I could find my Responsio ad Lutherum. It was great reading in college.
