When I was 15…

I was reading MAD Magazine and being a dumb kid.

Cady Crosby is 15 and she’s already written a book about Fr. Thomas Byles, one of the genuine heroes of the Titanic.  She and her brother Ben gave a presentation on Titanic for the Chesterton Society last month.  She also did a recitation of Chesterton’s “Lepanto”.

She is one extremely impressive young woman and is a beautiful ornament of the Church.  Check out her book!

I just read her book last night. It’s historical fiction, more history than fiction, and it is simply the story of one of the few priests who sailed on the Titanic, and how he gave his last hours as shepherd of souls, praying, granting absolution, helping people onto life rafts, refusing to be saved so that he could minister to the terrified and dying. Cady, of course, is home schooled, and her family is a wonderful witness to living an authentic Christian life.

When I was 15, I wasn’t even reading. Not that I was illiterate, but that just didn’t bother doing so.

Cady Crosby is a gifted young authoress. I expect her marvelous writing and research skills to take us on many literary adventures as the years pass. Cady, her brother Benjamin, and the other Crosby children who follow in their footsteps are the beneficiaries of two nurturing, loving parents who have found a way to unlock the potential in their children and yet let them be true to their young ages. Bravo to all of them!
