There Does Seem to Be Something in our National Psychology…

that requires an enemy.  It’s not that there are not real enemies too.  It’s just that we seem  to always be auditioning new ones should the old ones go away.  Happily, with Islam, we seem to have struck on an enemy we can be at war with till the end of time.  Of course, we also seem to be declaring war on the Church too.  What we fail to realize is that , although the Church will be here to the end of time, the United States of America will not be–and that the best way to hasten our destruction is make war on God.

Enemy formation is certainly how any group acquires solidity. Some would argue its how “culture,” as we know it, was born. And then, there is this pesky issue of anyone suggesting that the victim of our scapegoating may be innocent, and what tectonic ripples that might cause… http://www.gil-bailie.com/2012/11/from-archives-poetry-of-truth-part-170.html

Though you can’t help but wonder just who are these real enemies. After all, if you line up all the various criticisms of America and its dealings over the years, there just aren’t any that aren’t criticized by someone. The article linked to mentions the Kaiser, the Kremlin, and now these pesky Muslims. We’ve seen others argue we had no business getting involved in Nazi Germany’s affairs. And any good American knows there are those who suggest Japan was simply an innocent victim of evil racist American imperialism. So when you start adding the criticisms up, you can’t help but wonder just who these real enemies are, since just about every enemy in the past has someone saying it was all bogus, and an invention America’s warped collective mind.

When a people lose faith in Old Scratch and his minions of Power and Principality, well… As a Great and Famous writer once penned, “Supernature abhors a vacuum.”

Sharia law, Canon law, they want to impose it, what’s the difference? (note I did not say Natural Law)

Burkas, Contaception, both are the war on women.

They hate our freedoms! especially the right to choose! They’re terrorists!

Except that for 2000 years starting with Peter’s triple denial, the church has always been corrupt (the number of miters has always been exceeded by the number of crooks) , I would have expected at least ONE bishop here in the USA (instead of say, China) to write something about torture, habeas corpus, assassination drones, indefinite detention, the Magna Charta (a bishop, Stephen Langton was responsible for!), warrantless wiretaps, national security letters, infiltrating Mosques with informants, etc.

Of course Cardinal George said his successor would die under “indefinite detention”, and his successor would be killed by an “assassination drone” (note: I just updated the terms to 2012). Is it resignation to the fate, or some kind of cheering on the Tribulation and Armageddon?

The Church used to be at the forefront of human rights – we invented due process and many things in the Constitution (recently discarded). Now the Bishop of LA is calling for passage of the DREAM act, not for the repeal of any of the far more serious things.

William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!
Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
William Roper: Yes, I’d cut down every law in England to do that!
Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned ’round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man’s laws, not God’s! And if you cut them down, and you’re just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I’d give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety’s sake!
