Spare Dylann Roof

Spare Dylann Roof January 11, 2017

The Church says we should only execute people if we absolutely have to. The consistent prolife thing to do is to therefore listen to the Church, not battle her, and agree that Dylann Roof’s life be spared.

Respect for Ta-Nehisi Coates, who has every reason to hate the man, but who makes the argument for mercy as well as anybody can.

At the end of the day, a demand for the death penalty is inevitably a demand that a certain percentage (about 4%) of the people slaughtered by the state be innocent. If you favor the death penalty, you favor the proposition “Better the innocent be murdered than that the guilty escape my vengeful bloodlust.”

I prefer to just listen to the Church and then get back to doing something constructive.
