Bernie Sanders Defends Ann Coulter’s Right to Speak at Berkeley

Bernie Sanders Defends Ann Coulter’s Right to Speak at Berkeley April 24, 2017

Good for him!

“Ask her the hard questions. Confront her intellectually. Booing people down, or intimidating people, or shutting down events, I don’t think that that works in any way.”

This is America 101.

The guy also tried, last week, to offer some respect to the one-third of the Democratic Party that is prolife and has very serious conscience issues about abortion.  He himself, hailing from a Jewish tradition that, like it or not, has never evaluated the question from the same standpoint as Catholic teaching, is of course in favor of permitting abortion if mom wants one.  But given that as his default position, he nonetheless attempts to respect the consciences of the millions who don’t buy this.  It appears he has this crazy idea that intolerant abortion absolutism that gratuitously spits on millions of Democrats who want very much to support their party on a whole host of other issues is, y’know, boneheaded.

But the Dem leadership is nothing if not consistently stupid.  So after a brief internecine struggle with common sense in which common sense emerged badly beaten and professing his love for Big Brother, the leadership again put its foot down and said to pro-life, whole-life, consistent ethic of life, seamless garment Catholics, “To hell with you. We neither  need nor want your vote.  We’ll accept neocon warmongers and Wall Street slaves and member of the 1% (Hillary Clinton was both). But if you have so much as a qualm of conscience on abortion, we spit on you and cast you out!  It is infinitely less important to us that Trump be defeated than that you and your kind be stamped into the dirt.”

Christopher Jolly Hale of Catholics in Alliance f0r the Common Good remarks: “The Democratic Party won’t win elections by fighting against free speech in California, excommunicating pro-lifers in Nebraska, and questioning a candidate’s progressive credentials in Georgia.

That sounds like a dying party of white coastal elites, not the oldest and most successful political party in the history of the world.”

I’m not sure how it happened, but with the election of Donald Trump the two parties switched place.  The GOP is now the Evil Party and the Dems are now the Stupid Party.  Weird times.
