New Sophia Drawing: “Provision”

New Sophia Drawing: “Provision” April 3, 2011

This is an original pen and ink with graphite pencil drawing on Arches 300 lb. hot press acid free cotton rag, 8″x10″ (20cm x 25cm).

Ever since I was a young boy I was fascinated by the Old Testament stories. I remember the first time I heard about the ravens feeding the prophet Elijah when he ran to the wilderness to escape Jezebel in 1 Kings 17. These in my drawing are crows, but you get the idea.

I’ve called this “Provision“. Sophia has learned that there is provision in the wilderness, away from a culture that would have her believe that without them she would perish. She has discovered that in the wilderness, her provision is more spontaneous, natural and healthy. She will never return to the artificial and prescribed life again.
