Words are important and powerful. They not only describe realities, but create them. So if we use the word “sheep” to describe people, and if the people are gullible enough, then they will take on the characteristics of sheep.

Finally some people are standing up to the one who is trying to create a reality that dehumanizes them. What do they get in return? Another word that is attempting to create an alternate reality that keeps them on the same level as domesticated animals.

    I’m glad you’re doing this. Not all church leaders are bad and we get our share of grief from some of the sheep who at times can be ungrateful, malicious, you name it. So, in a sense, both sides at times contribute to the dysfunction in churches.

    Pat, that is so true. I have had a bible thrown at me and been “ratted out” to a pastor by fellow lay persons who had been pulled out of their psychological comfort zones by the way I interpret biblical texts.

    I guess that’s what happens when a person reads Scripture from the perspective of contemplative rather than dogmatic theology in church.
