how Elvis and God are the same

god has left the building cartoon by nakedpastor david hayward

“God does not dwell in buildings made by people” (Acts 7:48).

“If anyone says the Christ is here or there, don’t believe them” (Mark 13:21).

“The wind blows where it wills and you can’t tell from where it came or where it goes. So is everyone that’s born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).

It’s plain and simple. If someone says, “God is here”, don’t believe them. They’re lying. If someone says, “Jesus is here”, don’t believe them. They’re lying. If someone says “The Spirit is here”, don’t believe them. They’re lying.

Apparently, God who became Christ who became Spirit cannot and will not be contained within human constructs. Yet almost all the Christian language says otherwise. It’s all an attempt to control the Mystery and control those who believe in it. It’s a way to get your body and your money.

You do realize, don’t you, that the verse talking about the wind blowing where it wills and you cannot tell where it comes from or where it goes is only implicitly talking about the Spirit? Actually, it is talking about those born of the Spirit. It is talking about you and me. It is telling us that we are uncontrollable and full of wonder ourselves. It is telling us that we are free. This is the kind of thing we talk about and encourage one another with at The Lasting Supper.

What Are Your Thoughts?leave a comment
  • Having withdrawn from the institutional church rather recently, I was having this conversation with myself this very morning. I am so glad that God is not constrained to the steeple bearing four walls that we confine ourselves to. However, the call/challenge to live like God inhabits you is far greater than to live like you left God high and lifted up in the comforts of the sanctuary.

  • Romans 10:8

“But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart.”

  • “The Wind blows where it will” refers to the freedom of God to create faith in whomever He wills, wherever He wills. Not our freedom. We are free in Christ, yes.

But the passage cited is about God’s freedom. Jesus speaks it to Nicodemus, when Nicodemus asks “how can I be born again?”.

I totally agree with you that God cannot be contained within human constructs and i commend and admire you for being bold enough to write it because it is not a popular opinion among many professing Christians but then i think you took Mark 13:21 out of context. It is one thing for God to be in a place and another thing for God not to be in control or active in a place. God is everywhere. The Bible is clear that we live, move and have our being in the Holy God (Acts 17:28) and yet evil which is out of His Character is everywhere. The Bible is also clear that it is impossible to run from God because He is everywhere (Psalm 139:7-8, Rev 20:11)

What Jesus meant by “don’t believe it when people say He is here or there” is that the presence of God was not active in those places because of their disobedience and therefore could not be accessed there. e.g the Spirit of God cannot be accessed in the constructs of men because they have rejected the fact that His Church is not a building but a body.

He can only be accessed in the right places and like just like the lightening which shines from the east is visible to the west, so also would the Son of man would be in the day he is revealed ( Matt 24:27), this means that the coming of Christ would be a visible event. Only he won’t be coming in the constructs, imaginations and inventions of men even though many of those who promote these constructs and inventions would strongly believe and preach that he does (Matt 7:22-23). He (the light) would be coming in the hearts of His Church With Power and the results would be visible to all.

I would love to recommend a similar article to your readers. It emphasizes many of the points that you made but in a slightly different way. God bless

David – I remember hearing those on the outside referred to as far from God and irreligious. They are irreligious, but they are not far from God.
