misogyny, sticky notes and bonfires

misogyny sticky notes cartoon by nakedpastor david hayward

I can’t believe all the sexist, misogynist stuff flying around the internet by the flockful pooping all over everything. It’s rampant! Like one of my recent twitter updates: “Stupidity’s not increasing, but the publication of it is.” Sexism and misogyny have been around a long time. It’s just that now more people get to proclaim it. Freedom of speech, even if it is hate speech.

It’s uglier when wrapped in religious garb. It’s also more powerful because it says it’s not misogyny but biblical submission, obedience and other mind-benders.

I have a daughter. Lisa and I never suggested there were any limitations on her because she’s female. Spiritually. Vocationally. Intellectually. Emotionally. Etcetera. She’s defiant and fearless. And it shows when someone tries to restrict, restrain or regulate her.

We have an online community full of women who are impressively strong in spite of the overwhelming attempts to weaken them.

LOL David. If we light the fire now, how long do you think it’ll take before it burns itself out? Every time I think the darn thing is gone, someone comes along and adds more. It’s a challenge living a ‘sticky note’ free life.

  • come git it

  • true, eh?

  • Hello David, I wholeheartedly agree that we ought to combat misogyny and allow a growing number of females to teach within the Church and to study theology.

It infuriates me when I hear pastors saying: “but she’s a girl, she cannot teach the living Word of God”, entire vocations are spoiled.

But do you think that discrimination against women are far worse than discrimination against men?

    Lovely greetings from Germany.
    Liebe Grüsse aus Deutschland.

  • Yes it is worse for women because they have ALL of a patriarchal history against them.

Thank you for that. I like the art too.

I must say, as a non-believing woman, I long naively thought that most misogyny was rooted in religion.

Then I met internet atheists. They have no institutional excuse, it’s really sad to see.

Keep up the good work, it’s inspiring. I need a lighter too.

  • It is interesting. I think it is a vicious circle with each using the other for support. Thanks for your comment Maude.

A man in my church this morning was talking about how the trauma of daily life, and especially misogyny, is at the root of most of the conflict we’re facing in churches these days, and the thing that’s keeping many people out of church. If relationships have historically been traumatic for us, and church is about relationship, then how can we possibly participate??? I’d like to borrow your lighter and then keep lending it out to as many people as will have it! First, I will burn the most memorable sermon of my childhood, in which the pastor informed us that Jesus was standing on the necks of women to enforce proper behavior.

  • wow. ya. i’d buy you a new one for that.

You have an interesting blog Lothars Sohn. Are you practicing all your languages? Viele Gruesse aus Kanada.

I cannot even imagine such a clod. What kind of church was this? But then in my church we don’t ordain women and that’s just that and, so the subject never comes up. People here, of course, won’t find that progressive or acceptable. But by the sounds of it, it is more peaceful this way.

I have never heard a sermon about dress codes or hair or submission or whatever is “proper behavior.” I always find it very delightful to contemplate that Jesus got Martha to stop all the rigmarole in the kitchen and sit down and learn something. There is “proper behavior” for you.

  • NP: do you have unbiased metaanalyses on that subject? I’m open but sckeptical.

On my blog, I explain how the liberal agenda in France ignore anti-white racism, with dire consequences for our society:
