Advice for Creativity & Blog Writing

This is an extended quote from Brenda Ueland's book, If You Want To Write. It is an excellent source for inspiration and practical advice for creativity. I encourage you to get it. I found my used copy, in good condition, online for $1. Here's the quote: Gradually by writing you will learn more and more to be free, to say all you think; and at the same time you will learn never to lie to yourself, never to pretend and attitudinize. But only by writing and by long, patient, serious work will you … [Read more...]

The Present Presence of God

I went for a walk again across the Kennebacasis River Saturday, in front of my house. Abby, my dog, just loves it. She runs and runs and runs. She'll go way off so that she's just a black speck in the distance. She'll turn around, spot me, and come tearing back full speed, touch me, then take off again. She did this over and over. Even while Abby was way off in the distance, she was still, so to speak, in my presence and eyesight. But she needed to connect physically once in a while, probably … [Read more...]

This is mostly for the loved ones in the room, and most of it assumes that the dying is unconscious. Kerry slipped into a coma as the weekend progressed, so even though we were ultimately sensitive to her, their were concerns for the family and friends who were there that this list addresses. I'll assemble … [Read more...]

God’s Favour

Martin Luther, in his important book Bondage of the Will, wrote: He who glories in God is he who knows for sure that God looks on him with favour, and deigns to regard him kindly, so that what he does is pleasing in God's sight, and what does not please God is borne with and pardoned. The painting is one of my original watercolors. … [Read more...]
