Domestic, Sexual Abuse and Social Commentary in Novel Tried and Tested

Domestic violence continues to plague society. Layla Abdullah-Poulos and Tariq El-Amin discuss Umm Juwayriyah’s novel Tried and Tested and the author’s fictional portrayal of multiple levels of domestic violence reflecting partner abuse in the society.

Layla and Tariq also talk about Noura Hussein’s brutal rape and receiving the death penalty as well as the loss of women’s autonomy and agency in Muslim and non-Muslim cultures.
