5) Navigating the Storms of Our Lives

ABC News Go

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

‘The example of the believer is like that of a plant which is continually bent over by the wind; the believer is continually beset with afflictions. The example of a hypocrite is like that of the cedar tree, which does not yield until it is uprooted in one go.” (Muslim, 5024)

When I speak to people interested learning about Islam from other faiths. I describe the spiritual journey as an individual being on a ship. Sometimes we may reach waters that may be rough, deal with strong storms, and strong winds. The key in these situations is not to panic or lose composure, but to keep calm and have faith to weather the storm and navigate it. In life we cannot control circumstances or events in our lives. We need to accept the storms in our live and the challenges that come along in our lives. Sometimes in life we may have storms seen and unseen hit us. Some storms we are prepared for and some we are not. The key is to in that moment prepare yourself the best you can or respond the best you can in those storm while having faith in Allah that He will help you.
