Isaiah 30:18-22

Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.

Truly, O people in Zion, inhabitants of Jerusalem, you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when he hears it, he will answer you. Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Then you will defile your silver-covered idols and your gold-plated images. You will scatter them like filthy rags; you will say to them, “Away with you!”

    It really is amazing how chock full of delicious socialist hopefull goodness the bible really is. The only thing more amazing is that people work so hard to use a book that is practically a Socialist manifesto o justify social Dawinism and runaway predatory economic lawlessness.
    I guess this is why the myth of “Biblical literalism” and “Biblical innerancy” is promulgated so much. The Bible is meant by these people to be a cudgel they can beat people with not a book to actually be read.

    While people who actually read it become more socialist in their politics and lives.

    Well, me personally, anyway.

    Not that I read the bible all that often anymore, but as a child I read it a lot. At least during church services when that was all my Mom would let us read.

    When you do that much reading (let us say fifteen minutes a week for fifty weeks a year for seven years) and you are that young you tend to remember the stuff you read–or, me personally, anyway.

    Also, if you are running a vacation bible school, and offer a candy bar as a prize to anyone who memorizes the 23rd Psalm, make sure said candy bar includes chocolate. A Payday bar is not a good prize.

    I was raised in a right wing authoritarian household. I read the bible because I was threatened an punished into it. So you know, my parents inadvertently turned me into a socialist democrat.

    …I like Payday…

  • Fusina

    I expect there are a lot of people who do. But I was hoping for chocolate…and Payday is somewhat deficient in that substance.

    I can still recite the 23rd Psalm…

    As Altemeyer noted was common, their training worked too well, and kind of canceled itself out.
