The day after

The day after November 9, 2016

Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is on the point of death, for I have not found your works perfect in the sight of my God. Remember then what you received and heard; obey it, and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.

— Revelation 3:2-3

Yes, I’m quoting from John’s Apocalypse this morning. That seems appropriate, for much has been unveiled, unmasked, and revealed.

On another day, I might point out how that passage undermines Rapture folklore — with the thief in the night snatching away the unrepentant, not the righteous. Or chew on the christological implications of “in the sight of my God.” But that’s not where my head or my heart is focused today.

We have work to do. Much that can, and must, be done. Rest up, then wake up, and strengthen what remains.
