And of course, real nuns:
I am so looking forward to the release of the Chant from Avignon album in the US. I’ve got the site bookmarked so I can listen to the one chant now. The story was quite interesting. Thank you.
Yes! You can register at their site with news on the CD release.
Great quote from one of the nuns… “It’s not quite a question of how we FEEL when we sing..but what we are and for WHOM we sing!”
I tell the kids, holding up my cell phone, “It’s the most amazing thing! You can talk into it!” And I hold it up to my face, “and the other person’s VOICE comes out, too!!!”
(They roll their eyes and say, “yeah, yeah, whatever…”)
I periodically spend the weekend at a Monastery upstate that observes silence from 9 pm to 9 am. By far the hardest part is not saying good morning when I run into someone at the morning coffee pot.
The Brothers are the only ones who do it right. The guests always cheat with a nod and a smile.
When I first saw a post about this chant recording from Avingnon, it said it was to be on the same label as Lady Gaga. I had to read it three or four times before I finally figured out that Lady Gaga was not using chant (from God alone knows what kind of nuns) on one of her records, or that Lady Gaga was not going to do Gregorian chant. That degree of cognitive dissonance should never happen to anyone.
How come these nuns in “Avignon” speak English?
I’m not up on who these nuns are …
Their music is lovely!
