I’d like to interrupt this phenomenally craptastic week with a faith affirming thought and a picture of kitten…

… “How can you call yourself a Catholic?! Don’t you keep up with the news, what about the sex abuse scandals, and all those corrupt Bishops? Haven’t you ever read a Dan Brown novel or watched Borgia? Aren’t you embarrassed to be associated with such a debauched religious institution?!”

I’m sure we’ve all heard it. I brace myself for the questions every time another priest makes headlines. Then I let it roll off my back like water off a duck. It has nothing to do with not putting my trust in princes; I’m not immune to feeling disappointed in people. I just don’t let it bother me because every scandal is a small affirmation to the immortality of the Catholic Church. What other institution can you name that has weathered so much slander and gossip over the centuries yet continues to be a beacon of truth and faith for its 1.196 billion followers?

Heresy and her heretical bedfellows come and go while the Church remains; proof to me that Catholicism is the one true faith.

And now, a cute kitten…

If my faith depended in any way on my opinion of the clergy, I would have fallen away long ago.

I’m disappointed in this blog post. I had hoped for a cuter kitten.

I would like to thank you, good sir, for providing me with a much needed laugh.

Not that I don’t love Chesterton but you do get extra points for not automatically quoting him to make your point. I’ll leave it to those interested to find his quote on the subject.

    Well, that made me smile.

How did you scare it into that expression?  You showed it your bad church art posts, didn’t you?  Admit it!

I just like to remember what Jesus says about it when our Church is criticized”: “And I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (sorry I can’t quote the chapter & verse, I’m not a Mormon). Also, does PETA monitor this blog?

That’s Matt 16:18, but 5:11 is more appropriate: “Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.”
