Diet Update: Week Three…

… I am amazed my efforts have lasted this long. So there’s that. As for the rest. Eh. I know what I have to do and it’s just a matter of getting motivated enough to do it. God, I hate exercise. Hell is a gym with wall to wall mirrors and hot yoga.

To get me off my ass, I wrote of list of some things my weight prevents me from enjoying. This will by my motivation.

1- sky diving
2- being confident enough to wear a bathing suit
4- go hiking with my son without wanting to lay down in the woods and die, just to end my suffering.
5- going shopping. Fat clothes are so depressingly ugly

  • Quittin’ time at Tara!

Good for you. Hang in there. I have been doing atrociously, but Monday I resolve to begin afresh.

Kat, from experience let me tell you the worst hurdle to get over with exercise is inertia. Once you get over that you may find you enjoy it. Get some music you really enjoy rocking out to, keep it at a pace that’s comfortable (you should still be able to carry on a conversation) and don’t forget to stretch afterward. If not your body will get stiff and you won’t want to do it the next day. Also, you may find working out gives you a bigger appetite, so make sure your diet includes plenty of protein. I need to start working out again, my freshman 15 was a freshman 45 and lasted all the way to my PhD.

This right here. And find someone to exercise WITH you. I hate-hate-HATE motion just for the sake of motion, but I can walk with a pal and exercise with a work-out buddy just fine.

You can do it. You owe it to yourself.

We could try my upcoming Australian Walk for Fitness program. A re-enactment of the trek in “Rabbit Proof Fence.” Moore River to Jigalong. 1,500 miles, 9 weeks. Hell, we’ll give ourselves 10 weeks!

I recommend looking into joining your local Volksmarch club.

Protein, baby. And brisk walks on an empty stomach. Also, you may find you respond better to intense weightlifting rather than aerobic exercise. I do but everybody’s different.

    Good luck and God bless.
