Sen. Harry Reid Runs Headlong Into the Constitution, Comes Away Shaken

It seems there was some talk of amendments to a Transportation Bill, that got side-swiped by the First Amendment to the Constitution. Mr. Reid complained.

“Here is a bipartisan bill to create and save jobs,” the Democrat from Nevada said, noting it had required the input of four different committees. “Every state in the union is desperate for these dollars. But to show how the Republicans never lose an opportunity to mess up a good piece of legislation, listen to this: They’re talking about First Amendment rights, the Constitution.

Reid fumed, “That is so senseless. This debate that’s going on dealing with this issue dealing with contraception is a rule that hasn’t been made final yet. There’s no final rule.”

“Until there’s a final rule on this, let’s deal with the issue before us. That’s saving jobs for our country,” he said. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. … Why don’t we just calm down and see what the final rule is.”

Reid’s outburst followed a pitch from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who took to the floor following an objection to the “Religious Freedom” amendment offered by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.

The nerve of those guys, invoking the law of the land like that, you know, as if it had anything to do with governing our country. Oops.

Michael McAuliffe over at the Huffington Post shares the rest of the details. And speaking of sharing, keep doing that with the short link to the White House petition with everyone you know.

NARAL’s own petition is breathing down our neck so keep the pedal to the metal, folks!

Perhaps he’s like that character in ‘Stripes,’ who said to Sgt Hulka:

“I wanted to join up, you know, before I got drafted.”

Hulka: “There is no draft anymore, son.”

      “There was one?”

Because it’s not like the Obama administration (and apparently also some key democratic congressmen) have been discussion the HHS mandate instead of the economy/Transportation Bill or anything. Sheer arrogance on that one.

Here in Ct. we got the same evasion from our new Senator-Blumenthal. I emailed him and not surprisingly, got no response. Perhaps they are all reading from a script. God bless us all. PS We Christians and those Americans who see how blessed we are with our religious freedom will win this important battle, and it is a battle. Lets all be very careful not to be overly proud of our achievement or rub it in.- it is the work of our God.
