Hemant already covered this better than I could. I’ll just try to contribute all the bluntness and snark that Hemant left out. So Rep. Rick Saccone has introduced a bill that would put the words “In God We Trust” on every public school in the state. This is apparently more important than introducing bills that would increase funding to the schools for things like supplies or paying teachers a decent wage. The GOP: ran on the platform of creating jobs... Read more
Saw this image and it made me smile. Now, any sensible person might see this and think “Hrm, this makes sense: those holy books were written by people inside the circle, so they wrote about the area of which they knew.” Of course, if you’re determined to believe that the god of that little circle is concerned with the goings on of the entire world (and the entire cosmos), maybe you can just say god doesn’t get out much. How are those family values working out in the deep South? Demographers Jennifer Glass at the University of Texas and Philip Levchak at the University of Iowa looked county-by-county at divorces for a study to be published later this month in the American Journal of Sociology. Their study controlled for the effect of poverty, which is greater in the southern Bible belt and is known to contribute to higher divorce rates. Even accounting for income and the higher rate of... Here’s another story of how belief in demons can move even a mother to murder her children: A Maryland mother stabbed two of her children to death and wounded two others while attempting an exorcism, authorities said. Zakieya L. Avery, 28, was charged Saturday with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder, Montgomery County Police said in a statement. A second woman, who was briefly hospitalized after the incident, was also charged in the two... Read more
Ladies and gentlemen, I give this year’s entry in the Not Surprising Hall of Fame: Search trends released by Google indicate that the African nation, which recently passed a bill sentencing those guilty of “aggravated homosexuality” to life in prison, is the third-most popular source for searches of “man fucking man.” The gold and silver medal winners for search terms related to gay pornography? Kenya and Pakistan—two more nations where gays face legal punishment ranging from two to 14 years... Read more
Cambridge Broxterman has been a Camp Quest counselor for years. She’s not just a counselor, she’s organized retreats to plan for the upcoming CQ season and had other managerial roles. She’s committed, and very good at what she does. I worked with her at Camp Quest Ohio a few years back (when I tried to kill myself, it was she who literally saved my life). We became roommates later and had many adventures until I moved away to live with... Read more
For those of you who don’t know about ChristianMingle.com, it’s a dating site where Christians can: “Find God’s Match For You,” claiming that its “deepest desire is to see our members grow in their relationship with Christ while living out their spiritual journeys.” It is, in its words, “a tool God can and has used to bring people together…” Like every church that says they’re an instrument of god, this site was created and run by humans. God didn’t do... Read more
Hey again. Saturday I felt a lot better and actually wound up eating a bit too much. Boy, I paid the price for that on Sunday. I did manage to get up to about 1400 calories near the end of the day though when I was feeling a bit better. Still having some problems this morning. Couldn’t eat breakfast, but I am feeling a little better psychologically. I think I’m on the upswing. Will keep everybody posted. Read more
