The weather for the Rose Bowl Parade is perfect. No lightning, nobody being turned into a pillar of salt. Gay dudes still getting married. But don’t worry, during hurricane season a hurricane will hit a part of the country nowhere near Pasadena destroying the homes and lives of lifelong Christians who were not even at this parade and then, THEN you will know how upset god was about this abomination. Sounds legit. Read more

Happy New Year everybody!  Or, as many on the right wing call it, Merry Christmas!  I’m planning on celebrating with the family today with oodles of champagne, hugs, and board games.  But I did want to pop in to talk about a football game we’ll be watching today and why. The Rose Bowl is preceded by the Parade of Roses where one of the floats this year will feature a gay wedding.  You can be certain this has set off... Read more

There are tons of people who see the vague outline of a person or a face in a piece of toast or on the side of a tree and conclude that Jesus, who could communicate to them in any way, is choosing to communicate in a fashion that says nothing, and could be explained by picking one piece of apparent order out of a sea of chaos to see what a person wanted to see. I wonder how they’d react... Read more

My brother saw a link trending on his facebook page for someone who had made a status saying “the people have spoken” in response to A&E lifting its suspension on Phil Robertson.  Sadly, it’s true.  Lots of people did speak.  This is why corporations are not people and don’t get the same rights – they’re not moral agents.  Their moral is to make money, even if that means caving to bigots.  This is why atheists need to keep speaking up... Read more

My father’s facebook status from today: Our opposition is to the privileged status held by religious people, and seeking to remove that privilege along with all of its benefits and bringing those who enjoy such privileges down to an equal level to those who do not enjoy those privileges is NOT the same as “discrimination” or “war on religion.” Rosa Parks did not declare a “war on white people” by seeking to sit in the front of the bus, she... Read more

Alabama state senator Jerry Fielding (you can guess his political affiliation) is introducing a bill that would canonize Phil Robertson as a hero and announce Alabama’s unanimous support for the shamed reality ex-star.  Here’s what Fielding told his local press: “Phil Robertson’s family values are shared by the vast majority of Alabamians, who are rightfully concerned by the vitriol aimed at his Christian stance,” Fielding told the local paper. “There’s a clear double standard in the media favoring a liberal... Read more

Hey guys.  I wanted to write a post to say thank you.  As a writer/speaker for a living, my office is wherever I’m at.  For a few weeks at the end of the year, because I have this job, I can make that place my childhood home with my family.  I couldn’t do this if not for you all reading. Thank you so much for making my life wonderful and for enduring the short posts while I enjoy my time... Read more

The Harris Poll about religious adherence was released a little over a week ago. In a report that surprised none of us at WWJTD but shook certain of our neighbors to the core, it determined that adherence to religious belief is dropping significantly. Well, significantly for a drop in religious belief, anyway. It’s a small trend, but a trend whose latest movement is sharply less insignificant than in the past. I noticed something about the comments on the post on... Read more

I posted before about my parents signing up for the Affordable Care Act.  My bro just went through it himself: I tried to sign up for the ACA.  The website told me that I qualified for free healthcare, but that Kansas hadn’t expanded the program there.  It’s probably to protect freedom or something like that. Read more
