Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Gay bishop row may spark worldwide schism

Gay bishop row may spark worldwide schism Funny how splits happen. A denomination that was born out of a desire by a King to divorce his wife may end through the desire of a man to live with another. It is perhaps sad that we have come to such a situation that two men living together are automatically assumed to be gay. It is even sadder in a way that it is of interest to us that they used to have a sexual relationship. However, given the public office, given what the bible clearly says about homosexual acts, and given the command to ‘Flee from sexual immorality’ it is hard to come to any other conclusion than that the Bishop ought not to live with a man who he has a sexual attraction for. I certainly wouldnt live with an attractive woman who was not my wife if I’d had a sexual relationship with her in the past.

Some schisms are waiting to happen though, and although it may seem as though this crisis is doomed to split the church, this can only be a last straw. There are many reasons why the English and American wings of the Anglican denomination deserves to be criticised by those who actually believe the bible.

If this isnt the begining of the end for the Anglican denomination as we know it, then something else happening soon will be. I’m sad to say that I for one won’t mourn its passing too strongly.
