International roaming

International roaming 2013-12-18T11:12:10+00:00

Returning from my latest trip abroad today I reflected on a strange world that we now live in where getting accross seas is easier than going half way accross the country- why o why can’t there be flights from London to Liverpool or Hull I ask myself?

We live in a global village where those who live in cities can hop between them like stepping on a bus (and trust me in London you could be in most European cities by air by the time your bus got half way accross the City)

And one more weird anominaly is that when roaming abroad one has the choice of many different mobile phone providers. As I drove accross the country I was in earlier today it took me longer than the flight home, but as we rounded corners into blind spots for one network my phone just switched networks. I counted three different names of network! My colleages who actually had to live and work there couldnt get coverage for love nor money. I want international roaming in the UK. I want the networks to agree to share each others masts like different banks ATMS have interoperability agreements. Then I won’t be in a train and loose my signal every five minutes!

How we all long to be connected these days. How frustrated was I not to be able to get my email working whilst abroad! And yet how lonely are many business people who arent as lucky as me to have a family to come back to.

My daughter said to me today that I am lucky to be on airplanes so often and I guess I am. I feel much luckier to be at home with those I love though.
