Persuasive communication

Persuasive communication September 25, 2003

It is not necessarily eloquence that is needed–in

fact, eloquence can sometimes be counterproductive

for communication since it calls too much attention

to itself. What is needed is an ability to attract

people’s attention as one speaks, and keep that

attention, and succeed in transferring from the mind

of the speaker to the mind of the hearer a certain

amount of information. adapted from -Joel Nederhood

I would go further and state that a communicator needs to transfer passion from his heart to his hearers and lead to changes in the hearers values and actions.

We have all heard speakers who deposit something of themselves in us. That should be our goal.
