Le Sabot points out a “short, but pithy little piece on German cannibal Armin Meiwes. It applies to the case the widespread notion that anything done between consenting adults is permissible.”
What is wrong with that? Well the bible is very clear in the Ten Commandments (see Ex 20 )
You shall not murder (and in the ESV footnote- The Hebrew word also covers causing human death through carelessness or negligence)
A moral system that is based on rights will always fail. The issue is not the right of these men to have privacy and to not have their desires interferred with. Paedophiles might in some cases argue that the child is consenting (OK, so usually this is out of fear for the adult and does not constitute true consent- but what of cases where consent DOES occur). No one would say that made paedophillia right.
No the issue here is not rights but responsibilities. God does not say ‘you are an important person with rights, go claim them’. No rather he says, other people are imporant and you have responsibilities towards them that do not include killing them and eating them, OK? This is situational ethics gone stark raving bonkers!
