The curiousness of the relationship between blogging and Google gets ever stranger. Can it be that me adding a link to my favorite church in Brighton- CCK have really made such a difference to their web ranking at Google? Oddly, they have shot to the top spot for the search ‘Brighton Church’, whilst the search “church in brighton” still returns Jubilee and my blog well before them even if you add new frontiers to the search.
The strangest thing is that searching Google for links to CCK does not reveal my link at The power of blogging although the text is defintely indexed by Google. Google does state that there is another link however that it isn’t showing, so perhaps that is mine. Alternatively maybe something else changed over at CCK- but I don’t think so as the website still looks identical.
Clearly, a link from me counts as a vote from me in favour of that site for those key words. No surprise there, but the fact that google can be so influenced by one link makes this more a google targetted missile than a google bomb. Also, my blog exists for other reasons than to somehow ‘corrupt’ googles index, so I for one don’t see this as some kind of underhand, unethical activity. The very fact of talking about this kind of thing makes it happen- the furst paragraph in this post may quickly cause itself to become untrue, which is a scarey thought. If anyone is interested in all this then do let us know if you see Church of Christ the King appear in the results for a search for “church in Brighton”, and when this occurs.
