It seems we have forgotten that there is such a thing as a suicidal terrorist. We have had people climbing all over Buckingham Palace, Tower bridge and now invading our parliament. I suspect that in most countries (no doubt including the USA) all these ‘lovable eccentric’ English protestors would have quite simply been shot- despite their royal connections.
We simply cannot allow this kind of nonsense at this time, or before we know it the next terrorist atrocity will be conducted by someone wearing a batman suit pretending to be ‘just a harmless protestor’
As Hain said reported on BBC NEWS “‘We have had three stark breaches of security – Greenpeace climbing Big Ben, Fathers 4 Justice throwing a flour bomb in the chamber in May and yesterday’s hunters invading the chamber for the first time since the 17th century… ”
Never since Oliver Cromwell has the main chamber of the commons been invaded. Oliver Cromwell fought for freedom. Today we must recognise that certain freedoms-like the freedom to burst into a public building to make a point- will have to be given up in order for us to win our battle to protect real freedom. What if our government and opposition had both been killed today by a bomber?
What must Osma Bin Laden’s friends make of this farce? When are we going to become serious about security? Is a 9/11 style event inevitable here in the UK?
